We are pleased to announce that close to 30 FITs from the four training institutions in the state attended the first program sponsored by the Chapter specifically designed with Fellows in mind. The program was held on May 10-11, 2008 in Columbia, Missouri.
The program featured an educational session on contract evaluations, financial integrity, and malpractice issues from the plaintiff and defense viewpoints. A panel discussion featuring MO-ACC members Dr. Alan Forker, Dr. Jerry Kennett, Dr. Tom Martin, Dr. John Best and Dr. Rob Merritt discussed the pros and cons of the various types of practices available to the Fellows as they embark on their cardiology profession. Dr. James Dove, past president of the American College of Cardiology, gave an outstanding presentation of Quality Issues and how these issues will affect those who practice in the future.
Our thanks to the leadership of Dr. Frank Bleyer and the help of Dr. Alan Forker, Dr. Greg Flaker, Dr. Ben Barzilai and Dr. Andy Kates in making this program possible.
The MO-ACC Chapter also provided three awards to FITs who presented posters at the meeting on May 12th. The recipients are:
$1,000.00 - Garg Rajeev, Universities and Clinics, Columbia
$500.00 - Peter Mikolajczak, St. Louis University
$250.00 - JoEllen Kohlman, St. Louis University
The program ended with a great meal where FITs had a chance to network in a casual setting. Plans are to hold the program again next year.
